asked the Minister for Local Government what is the cause of the delay in sanctioning proposals by the Westmeath County Council in respect of differential rents for houses which were completed under the seventh rural housing scheme.

Examination of the proposals which were received on 14th May showed, inter alia, that rents of from 4s. 6d. to a maximum of 12/- a week were involved, while the economic rent was estimated at more than 35s. The proposals were not therefore in accordance with the normal principles of differential renting and have been the subject of correspondence with the housing authority. I shall give a decision in the matter as soon as possible.
