Vol. 196 No. 18

Written Answers. - Galway Water Supply Schemes.

66.

asked the Minister for Local Government what progress has been made to provide piped water supply schemes for the villages of (a) Caltra-Castleblakeney (b) Menlough (c) Monivea and (d) Miltown, all in County Galway.

Schemes for the provision of piped water supplies for the areas referred to have been under consideration by Galway County Council in conjunction with the county water supply survey which is being finalised at present by the County Engineer. The position in the individual areas is as follows:—

Caltra-Castleblakeney: A proposal for a regional scheme which includes provision for the villages will come before the Council shortly.

Menlough: A preliminary report on a scheme to serve Menlough and adjoining areas has been prepared by the Council's Consulting Engineer and is at present being examined by the County Engineer.

Monivea: A boring contractor failed to find an adequate supply of water at the original site selected. Further efforts are being made by the Council to find a reliable source.

Miltown: No separate proposal to provide a water supply for Miltown has been formulated. A piped water supply for the area will, however, be considered by the Council in conjunction with the report on the county water survey.
