(South Tipperary) asked the Taoiseach the number and category of road vehicles (a) attached to CIE and (b) owned by people other than CIE, and the number of plated lorry owners in the Irish Republic.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Vehicles.
I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving particulars of the number and category (a) of road motor vehicles owned by CIE on 31st March, 1962, and (b) of all mechanically propelled vehicles under current licence in August 1962.
The total number of merchandise licences issued under the Road Transport Acts authorising the operation of merchandise road transport business is 962. Vehicle plates are required to be carried on the lorries covered by these licences with the exception of those operated by authorised (merchandise carrying) companies (that is to say, CIE, County Donegal Railways Joint Committee and Londonderry and Lough Swilly Railway Co.) and by those whose licences are restricted to the distribution of Sunday Newspapers.
