Vol. 197 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages and Conditions of Forestry Workers.

62.

(South Tipperary) asked the Minister for Lands how the present wages and working conditions of forestry workers compare with those for county council workers (a) in the State as a whole and (b) in County Tipperary.

Forestry workers throughout the country including County Tipperary enjoy the same working conditions whereas those of county council workers may vary from county to county. In the circumstances it would be difficult to give an overall comparison but it may be taken that, in general, the working conditions of forestry workers compare favourably with those enjoyed by county council workers.

With regard to wages, the same basic rate applies to forestry workers throughout the country excepting Counties Dublin, Kildare and Wicklow where somewhat higher rates apply. In addition to basic wages, an incentive bonus based on work output is payable to forestry workers.
