35.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in respect of each of the years 1960 and 1961 and up to the present in 1962 the amount spent on (a) the building of new Garda stations, (b) the building of houses for Gardaí, (c) the reconstruction of Garda stations, and (d) the reconstruction of official married quarters for Gardaí.

I am informed by the Commissioners of Public Works that they have not found it possible to subdivide figures of expenditure between Garda stations and Garda houses.

Expenditure by the Commissioners on the building of new stations and houses in the financial years 1959-60, 1960-61, 1961-62 and 1962-63 to date amounted to £15,000, £7,000, £28,000 and £31,500, respectively. In addition, £93,500 was expended in the year 1961-62 and £114,500 in the current financial year on the new Garda Training Centre at Templemore, Co. Tipperary.

Expenditure on the reconstruction of Garda Stations and houses in the financial years 1959-60, 1960-61, 1961-62 and 1962-63 to date amounted to £13,000, £14,600, £40,000 and £14,300, respectively.

The National Building Agency, Ltd., expended £2,185 in the financial year 1961-62 and £20,109 in the current financial year in connection with the provision by them of houses for Gardaí. The agency incurred no expenditure under this head in previous years.
