Vol. 198 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Roscommon Forestry Land.

35.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the refusal to sell a small portion of forestry land at Ballinamulla, County Roscommon, to a would-be purchaser (name supplied) will cause grave inconvenience to him, and retard agricultural progress on his farm, which is completely divided already; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

The plot in question comprises about 8 acres of old woodland very suitable for forestry and it would be wrong not to use it for that purpose. I am informed that the Deputy's suggestion that the applicant's holding is completely subdivided by the forestry plot is not correct.

Is it not correct that this man's holding is completely divided? I see no reason why the Minister would not consider selling a portion of this land to this applicant.

The Deputy is not correct. This landowner has in fact got half an acre adjoining both ends of his holding.

I did not hear the Minister.

I am instructed that the proposed purchaser has been given a plot of approximately half an acre in extent adjoining his holding. Therefore, the Deputy's information is not correct.

He can go ranching on that.

There is room there for the Deputy, too.
