asked the Minister for Justice if he will state for each of the years 1959 to 1962, inclusive, the number of candidates (a) who presented themselves for the Garda Entrance Examination and (b) who were recruited, and the number of successful candidates (i) who received any secondary education, (ii) who had the Leaving Certificate and (iii) who received no secondary education.

The information available regarding the number of candidates appointed who received secondary education is confined to particulars of candidates who on appointment held the Intermediate or Leaving Certificate. The information requested by the Deputy is set out in the form of a tabular statement, which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.
