Vol. 199 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hotel Grants.

11.

andMr. Kyne asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of hotels to date which received grants from State sources for rebuilding or extension purposes and which have been sold to new proprietors since receipt of the grant.

Grants for the development of holiday accommodation are made by Bord Fáilte Éireann in their discretion out of funds made available to them for that purpose under the Tourist Traffic Acts. It is a standard condition that hotels in receipt of grant assistance must be maintained as registered hotels for at least five years after the grant payment and this condition binds any new owner.

I am informed by the Board that grant assistance has been approved for over 150 hotels, of which two have been sold to new proprietors. In each of these cases, the premises is still being operated as a hotel.
