Vol. 199 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC: Educational Facilities.

20.

asked the Minister for Education if he is satisfied that the facilities for education are competitive in both the primary and secondary schools to enable this country to compete with other countries, should Ireland become a member of the EEC.

As in other countries, changes have been and are being introduced here which, I am confident, will enable our schools to meet whatever challenges they may be called upon to face.

Could the Minister indicate what these changes are?

It is a very wide question and it would require a great deal of time to answer fully the variety of possible interpretations which can be put upon the wording of the question. The production of extra schools buildings, extra teachers, new courses, has my constant attention and there has been a very rapid increase in the expenditure on education here in the past five years or so.
