At the end of the 1961-62 planting season, the total area of State plantations held by my Department was 345,777 acres. In addition, there was a total area of 10,634 acres of acquired woodlands still held intact. The total wooded area in hands on 31st March, 1962, was, therefore, 356,411 acres.
The information about the number of trees planted in each of the past ten years is given in a tabular statement which I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate with the Official Report.
