Vol. 199 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - EEC: Industrial Regroupment.

15.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the Taoiseach's statement that industrial regroupment for free trade is inevitable, irrespective of the result of Ireland's application for full membership of the EEC, the Government intend to introduce the proposed retraining, compensation and resettlement grant schemes intended if the application for membership was successful.

As I have already informed the Dáil, the question of arrangements to deal with redundancy, retraining and resettlement in industry generally is being actively investigated by the Committee on Industrial Organisation and by the Interdepartmental Committee on the retraining and resettlement of workers. Pending the consideration of reports by these Committees, when they are received, I am not in a position to forecast what will ultimately be decided.
