Vol. 199 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Development.

17.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the serious implications as to the future prosperity and development of the underdeveloped and less well serviced areas in rural Ireland, contained in the recommendations of the CIO Report on Industrial Grants, he intends to accept the broad recommendation that new industrial development be centred largely in the already relatively prosperous or well-developed areas.

The Deputy will have seen my statement in the press of 19th January 1963 on the CIO Report on Industrial Grants, and will also have seen the two Bills which are now before the House and which contain the Government's proposals for amending the grants legislation for the undeveloped areas and for the rest of the country.

As announced, the Government have decided that the recommendation as to Development Centres should be considered in connection with the Second Programme for Economic Expansion.
