Vol. 199 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kildare Estate.

32.

asked the Minister for Lands when the Land Commission are likely to divide the Killian Estate at Killeenmore, Kill, County Kildare.

A scheme of division for this 291 acre estate is in course of preparation and most of the essential enquiries on the ground have been completed. It is not as yet possible to indicate when allotment will be feasible but I have asked that the matter be expedited.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware of the fact that the Land Commission endeavoured to offer these lands for letting in conacre last week? Nobody made an offer to purchase any of the lands, preferring that the division of the lands should be expedited. In view of that fact, which is evidence of the consensus of local opinion, will he take steps now to endeavour to ensure that these lands are divided this year?

The Deputy's information is wrong. The lands have, in fact, been let for the coming season. We hope that an allocation scheme will be possible when the present letting ends next year.

Will the Minister say if the lands were let at a public auction?

They have been let until the spring of 1964.
