Vol. 201 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Division of Meath Estates.

73.

asked the Minister for Lands (a) if a date has yet been fixed for the division of the Boyle estate, Diamor, Crossakiel, Kells, County Meath; (b) if it is intended to give a farm to the man who has been herd on the farm for the past five years; and (c) if the balance of the farm is to be given to local applicants or to migrants.

No lands in the townland of Diamor have been acquired from an owner of this name.

Perhaps, however, the Deputy may have in mind another property, comprising 169 acres, which is on hands in this townland. As resale proposals for this estate have not yet been finalised, it is not possible at present to say how the lands will be allocated. The claims of all eligible applicants will be fully considered in connection with the disposal of the lands. If at all possible, some allotments will be made this year.

If an official of the Land Commission informed the herd on this farm that he was going to get an allotment, can I take it that that official had no authority for making that statement?

I would have to have further information in the matter before I could answer the Deputy's question.

74.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in connection with the division of the Rountree Estate, Martry, Kells, County Meath (a) the number of local applicants for holdings on this farm, (b) the number of local applicants who got holdings and the size of each such holding, and (c) whether any holdings were given to persons who had let holdings of which they were already in possession.

Of 368 acres originally acquired on this estate, 177 acres have been allotted, together with 19 acres transferred to the Land Commission in exchange by one of the allottees. An area of 191 acres is pending for allotment.

Following are the replies to the various parts of the question:—

(a) 57—from Co. Meath as a whole. (b) 9—their allotments ranged from ½ acres to 32 acres, including a plot of 5½ acres by way of a GAA sportsfield. (c) No, as far as is known.

I am afraid the investigation under (c) was not too deep.

Questions Nos. 75 to 79, inclusive, postponed.
