Vol. 201 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tralee Telephone Exchange.

85.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, in view of the fact that premises were purchased by his Department in Tralee for the purpose of installing an automatic telephone exchange over a year ago, and that, since the purchase of the premises, no work towards the installation of the exchange has been done, he will state at what date he expects work to commence on the conversion of the premises; and at what date he expects the new exchange to come into operation.

The premises referred to were acquired in August, 1962, and they will be demolished to make way for the new telephone exchange. The planning of the new building is in hands in the Office of Public Works and while there will be no avoidable delay, it is not possible at this stage to give a firm forecast of when the building works will be completed. On completion of the building, a further period of approximately one year will be required for the installation of telephone equipment.
