Vol. 202 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Costs and Expenses Awarded against State.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each of the three years ended 31st March 1963 the amount under each of subheads B and C of the Law Charges Vote where the action involved was lost by the State, and the total amount paid in each such year in respect of costs and expenses awarded against the State in those years, or paid in those years, as may be more convenient.

The expenditure incurred from the Votes for Law Charges and the Office of the Revenue Commissioners in respect of costs and expenses awarded against the State is as follows:—

£

1960-61

3,367

1961-62

7,677

1962-63

23,378

As regards the first and second parts of the question, relating to expenditure from subheads B and C of the Vote for Law Charges on actions "lost by the State", I regret that the information sought is still not available because the personnel in the Chief State Solicitor's Office who are responsible for compiling this information have been fully occupied in Court and elsewhere on a number of current and important legal cases requiring their unremitting attention.

May I suggest therefore that the Deputy repeat the first and second parts of the question in a month's time?

Did I understand the Parliamentary Secretary to refer only to revenue departments?

The expenditure incurred from the Votes for Law Charges and the Office of the Revenue Commissioners.
