Vol. 202 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tullamore Housing Scheme.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cause of the delay in giving sanction to Tullamore Urban District Council to erect twenty new houses at Puttaughaun, Tullaghmore, County Offaly; if he will give immediate sanction to proceed with these houses; and if he is aware that at least one hundred and fifty additional new houses are required in order to meet the town's housing needs.

There has been no delay. Contract documents for this scheme were received on 26th March. Before they could be considered it was necessary to obtain from the housing authority a report on certain technical aspects of the scheme. This report was received on the 2nd instant and a decision on the documents will issue shortly.

With regard to the latter part of the question, while I have no recent information as to the number of dwellings required in Tullamore, any proposals the housing authority may put forward to meet ascertained needs will be favourably considered.
