Vol. 202 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Nigerian Citizens in Ireland.

47.

andMr. McQuillan asked the Minister for Justice whether, for the purposes of clarification, he will state whether Nigerian citizens may enter this country without restriction of any kind; and whether, having entered, they may reside here without permission or formality of any kind.

Nigerian citizens, in common with citizens of all Commonwealth countries, other than persons born in Great Britain or Northern Ireland, are subject to immigration control when coming here from places other than Great Britain or Northern Ireland. Details of the immigration control are set out in the Aliens (Amendment) Order, 1962, the text of which has been laid on the Table of the House and which has attached to it an explanatory memorandum.

A citizen of a Commonwealth country who has entered the country, whether from Britain, Northern Ireland or otherwise, does not require permission to reside here nor does he have to comply with any formality under the Aliens Laws.
