Vol. 202 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Water and Sewerage Services.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the urgent need for water and sewerage services, as well as adequate public lighting, at Turnipin Cottages, Cloghran, County Dublin, and that the attention of the local authority has been drawn to this unsatisfactory state of affairs on many occasions over the past twenty years, but to no avail; and if he will have this city suburb made a special case for examination by his Department with the object of having these services provided quickly.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to his question of 16th November, 1961 (Vol. No. 192, Cols. 459 and 460) on the subject. I am informed by Dublin County Council that there has been no change in the position in the meantime. No recent representations have been made to the council in regard to this matter and no indication has since been received from a majority of the tenants of willingness to accept the installation of a piped water supply on the terms offered by the council.

A decision as to whether all or any of the services in question are to be provided rests with the local authority in the first instance.

I appreciate that the Minister who can properly deal with this is not present and has had a fairly heavy day. I would ask the permission of the Chair to take up this matter on the Adjournment next week when the Minister will have more time to deal with it.

The Deputy will have to give notice again if he wishes to raise it on the Adjournment.
