Vol. 203 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Turbary.

40.

asked the Minister for Lands what proposals the Land Commission have to meet the turbary needs of the people of Cloonboo, Currandulla, County Galway.

In this locality, at present, the Land Commission have in their possession only a limited area of turbary for disposal but any bogs which may become available in the district generally will be considered for possible acquisition with a view to augmenting the area already on hands.

Have the Land Commission interested themselves in any possible bog that may become available?

As an indication of their interest, they have, in fact, over the past two years migrated ten families from that very area for the relief of congestion and they have acquired any lands that have become available.

I am talking of turbary, not of lands.

The Land Commission cannot manufacture turbary. If it becomes available, they try to get it.
