Vol. 203 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Caherconlish (Limerick) Vocational School.

52.

asked the Minister for Education the present position with regard to the provision of a new vocational school at Caherconlish, County Limerick; whether a site has been purchased, and, if so, at what date; what it cost; and whether any such site is at present being put to any use, and, if so, what use.

Approval in principle of the provision of a vocational school at Caherconlish was given in 1952 and a site was purchased in 1953, for the sum of £400 plus redemption costs of annuity. I understand that this site is let for grazing on an eleven months basis.

A sketch plan for a new school was submitted by the County Limerick Vocational Education Committee to my Department and was returned to the Committee in January, 1962, with recommendations for its amendment. Since then, the Committee have been giving further consideration to the project and in September last they decided to have an up-to-date survey made of the educational needs of the district before coming to a final decision on the type and size of school to be provided. The Committee's further proposals are awaited.
