Vol. 203 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Accommodation of Evacuated Families.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make all necessary arrangements whereby all Government services will be utilised in order to provide accommodation for persons evacuated from condemned and dangerous buildings so that they may be accommodated in a satisfactory way, pending the provision of alternative housing for them by Dublin Corporation.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will arrange for dispossessed persons to be given temporary accommodation in more habitable and satisfactory surroundings than the present accommodation in the Mendicity Institute, pending the meeting of their housing needs by Dublin Corporation.

18.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is satisfied with the present accommodation and layout of the Mendicity Institute, having regard to the fact that persons who have been urged to use this accommodation have refused to do so, both on the grounds that husbands are separated from their wives and children, and that the accommodation offered is outdated and revolting to many persons.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 16, 17 and 18 together. The Dublin Corporation are arranging for the provision of temporary accommodation for the persons in question.

In regard to the present accommodation and layout of the premises in Usher's Island formerly occupied by the Mendicity Institution, these premises are provided by the Dublin Health Authority for use as a night shelter and I have no functions in regard to them.
