Vol. 204 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballycotton (Cork) Pier Toilets.

34.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that proposals for the erection of toilets on the pier at Ballycotton, County Cork which were first mooted over twenty years ago have not yet been carried out by the Southern Committee of the Cork County Council; and if, in view of the growing importance of Ballycotton as a deep-sea angling centre, he will direct that this amenity be provided forthwith.

Plans and specification for a sanitary convenience in Ballycotton were approved by my Department in 1956. The local authority did not proceed with the erection at the time but I understand that the question is again under consideration by the local authority.

I have no power to direct a sanitary authority in this matter. I have brought to the attention of all sanitary authorities the desirability of providing sanitary conveniences in their areas.
