Vol. 205 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Clerical Officers.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government if the findings of the Chairman of the Arbitration Board, set up in respect of the salary claim of clerical officers under local authorities, propose a differential in respect of the salary scales for men and women; if the introduction of such a differential would represent a change from the existing practice of parity in the scale for men and women; and if in fact women clerical officers in their existing contracts are entitled to a salary similar to that of men clerical officers.

The Chairman of the Arbitration Board, in his report on the claim of local authority clerical officers for increased remuneration, has recommended separate salary scales for men and women. Clerical officers are entitled to such remuneration as is granted to them by their employers, the local authorities, with my sanction. At present there is a common salary scale for men and women.
