Vol. 205 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Millstreet (Cork) Fire Brigade.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that the personnel of the local fire brigade at Millstreet, County Cork, resigned as a protest against the delay in the erection of a new fire station in the town; and that the nearest fire station is at least twelve miles distant from Millstreet; and if, in view of the serious situation prevailing, he will take immediate action to have the matter satisfactorily resolved.

I am aware of the position referred to by the Deputy. The matter of the resignations is, I understand, being brought to a settlement.

A temporary solution to the problem of providing reasonable accommodation for the fire service in Millstreet has been found. In the meantime tenders for a permanent fire station are being examined by the county council's architect.
