Vol. 206 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Schedule A Income Tax Exemption.

3.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider exempting persons over sixty-five years of age who are living on fixed incomes from income tax payable under Schedule A in respect of houses occupied as dwellings.

The reply is in the negative.

Could I ask the Minister, in view of the hardship imposed or people of this kind, does he propose to take any steps to make things easier for them in the present situation, with the cost of living rising so rapidly?

I do not think there is any case for exemption from income tax payable under Schedule A.
