Vol. 207 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mentally Handicapped Children.

4.

asked the Minister for Health if any proposals have been received by his Department for the establishment of a home for mentally-handicapped children in East Limerick; and, if so, what is the position in regard to the matter.

I have received no proposal for the establishment of a home of this nature. The Deputy will probably be aware that an extension to the existing institution for mentally handicapped girls at Lisnagry is proposed. Work on this extension is expected to commence within the next few months and when completed the institution will have accommodation for about 90 girls as against 36 at present.
