Vol. 207 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Deputy Matron in Dublin Hospital.

3.

asked the Minister for Health the date on which he received a request from the Dublin Health Authority for sanction for the appointment of a deputy matron in St. Kevin's Hospital; and when he expects to be in a position to make a decision on this matter.

A proposal to create an office of deputy matron at St. Kevin's Hospital was submitted by the Dublin Health Authority to my Department on 11th July, 1963.

The approved complement of senior supervisory nursing staff at this institution is a matron and six assistant matrons. The Health Authority's proposal involved a departure from the existing staffing arrangements approved for local authority general hospitals and, as such, required examination. I am now satisfied that there is need for the creation of this new post at St. Kevin's Hospital and the necessary approval is being conveyed to the health authority.
