Vol. 208 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Airport Leisure Centre.

16.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether his attention has been drawn to the announcement of plans for a large leisure centre at Dublin Airport by a private company; and whether he has any statement to make with regard to such plans and their connection with the airport.

I have agreed to let to private interests about thirty-two acres of the Dublin Airport lands which are not immediately required for airport purposes for the establishment of a nine-hole golf course with a driving range, miniature golf course and club house. The letting will make an extra contribution to the revenue of the airport and should provide an attractive amenity in the area. I am aware that, as mentioned in recent announcements, the promoters of this venture contemplate the provision of other leisure facilities. If firm proposals materialise for the extension of such facilities on airport lands the promoters will have to submit them for my consideration. The lease for the golf centre will include appropriate safeguards including a condition that it will terminate if the lands are required for airport purposes before the expiration of the full term, which is, in any event, to be a fairly short one.
