Vol. 209 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Employment.

12.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state, in respect of all reports of Committees of Industrial Organisation released to date, the total number of employees in these industries and the number of these employees which the Committees believe will become redundant over the next ten years.

Reports by the Committee on Industrial Organisation on the surveys of 18 industries, employing a total of 65,500 persons, have been published to date. The Committee estimated that, if the necessary adaptation measures are taken by the firms concerned, there may be redundancy in five of these industries of the order of 5,000 persons in free trade conditions. This estimate must, of course, be seen in the context of a substantial overall increase in industrial employment by 1970.
