Vol. 212 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Location of Airfields.

66.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he has decided in what locations he proposes to build local airfields; and whether he will provide such an airfield in the South East Wexford area.

The Government have no plans for providing local airfields. So far as major airports are concerned, I am satisfied that the country is adequately served by the existing three State airports. The establishment of additional airfields would be a matter for local or commercial enterprise, and, as I have indicated on several occasions, the services of the professional staff of my Department will be made available on request to advise on the suitability of proposed sites.

Does the Minister know anything about this headline in the Sunday Press that there would be at least five new airports?

I was referring to local airports.
