Mr. T. Lynch

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state in respect of each year since 1954 for each county and county borough (a) the number of vehicles taxed, and (b) the amount collected in road tax; and the respective totals for the whole country for each year.

The information requested is in the form of tabular statements which with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.

The particulars given in regard to vehicles are the numbers of vehicles under current licence on 10th August each year and the figures relating to the amount collected show the amounts collected by licensing authorities and lodged to the local motor tax accounts in each of the financial years.
