Vol. 216 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mental Hospital Nursing Staff.

70.

asked the Minister for Health if he will take steps to ensure that mental hospital authorities in making appointments to the nursing staff of mental hospitals will dispense with the interviewing of girls who have shown their suitability for appointment by obtaining high marks in the entrance examination or by having had satisfactory experience of temporary duty.

Mr. O'Malley

My functions in relation to the appointment of female trainee psychiatric nurses in mental hospitals are confined to laying down qualifications for the office. The arrangements made by mental hospital authorities to satisfy themselves that candidates are suitable for appointment are a matter for the authorities themselves.
