Vol. 216 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage of Laois River.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will undertake the drainage of the Delour river in the Coolrain area, County Laois, which flows into the River Nore, as this river has been the cause of constant flooding and land project work has been held up in the district; and when it is hoped that work will commence as many local landowners are anxious to improve their lands and to have this work undertaken without delay.

The drainage of the Delour river could be considered by the Commissioners of Public Works only as part of a comprehensive scheme under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945, for the River Nore catchment as a whole. The Nore will be the next major catchment to be surveyed but it is too early as yet to say when the work will be commenced.
