With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 57 and 58 together.
As I have stated on previous occasions, it is my policy, in the educational interests of the children concerned, that smaller schools should where feasible, be discontinued and provision made for the pupils in larger schools to which they would be brought by transport services.
My Department is at present investigating the matter of the centralisation of the New Inn parish schools on these lines.
It has been decided, however, to allow the building of the New Inn boys' school to proceed without prejudice to the question of centralisation as the school is located at the focal point of the parish.
The matter of providing sanitary facilities at Knockgraffon is before the Department at present but until the whole question of centralisation has been fully investigated and decided upon it will not be possible to say what further action should be taken in the matter.
