Vol. 219 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swimming Pools.

asked the Minister for Local Government when it is hoped to sanction the plans submitted for the swimming pool at Carlow town.

I cannot say when a decision will be reached on proposals for a swimming pool at Carlow, which are at present being examined in my Department.

Is the Minister aware that last July Carlow Urban District Council asked him to sanction the plans for this pool? To date, they have not yet been sanctioned. Could the Minister state within what number of months it is expected sanction will be granted?

There are a few places where they seem to have more money than sense, and only lately have they got the urge and the enthusiasm to proceed with pools at a cost greater than the prototype which, in my estimation, is suitable for those who are looking for more expensive pools. What they were doing up to now I do not know.

If my memory serves me aright, Carlow went ahead with this long before there was talk of a prototype. I believe the hold-up is due to the prototype.

It is not due to it, but to the people who seem to think they should get more expensive pools.

Or else the money is not available.

If either case is correct, there will not be one. Is that not right?

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received proposals for a swimming pool for Navan, County Meath; and if he will state the present position.

Inquiries have been made by a local committee regarding financial and other aspects of the provision of a swimming pool at Navan, but no definite proposals have so far been received.
