It is proposed to build separate national schools for boys and girls at Greenhills. Accommodation will be provided for about 700 boys in 16 classrooms and for about 850 to 900 girls in 20 classrooms.
Plans for the girl's school have been approved and a grant has been sanctioned towards the cost of its erection. I understand that a building contract will be placed very soon.
The boys' school is still at the planning stage and, while there will be no delay in dealing with the matter as far as my Department is concerned, I regret that I am not in a position to say at this stage when the building of the school will commence.
Is the Minister aware that there are ten wooden classrooms there at the moment and that only three classes are being catered for and that the area is very badly served?
I am aware of the great need for the schools and, as I said, the contract for the girls' school will be signed very shortly. The boys' school is at a different stage of planning but, so far as we can expedite it, we will.
