Vol. 220 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Laois-Offaly Cottages.

11.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has a proposal from Laois County Council for the erection of a cottage for the Curran family, Clonmore, Killeshin, Carlow, County Laois on a site which the county council have approved; and if, in view of the great urgency associated with the housing of this family, he will give his sanction so that the cottage may be erected without further delay.

This proposal has been received in my Department and is under consideration. A decision will be given as soon as possible.

Would the Minister consider issuing approval to the county council in this case as a matter of urgency, in view of the fact that this family is living in a very dilapidated old house which is in a state of collapse. Unless the new building is got under way immediately, it will not be possible for them to be in occupation of the new house before the coming winter. I am serious when I tell the Minister that this is a case of very extreme urgency on the very edge of Carlow town.

I can assure the Deputy it will be treated with the utmost sympathy and urgency.

Thank you.

12.

A decision on the proposal will be conveyed to the housing authority as soon as possible.
