Vol. 220 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Integration of Schools.

70.

Mr. Barrett

asked the Minister for Education if he will indicate the method he intends to adopt in his efforts to integrate State-sponsored vocational schools and privately owned secondary schools the staffs of which are paid a basic salary by the principals of such schools.

It is not and never has been my intention to integrate secondary and vocational schools. What I have in mind is that, while retaining their distinctive character, the two types of school should pool their resources so that the special facilities of each school will be available to all pupils in the area, thus providing from the combined resources of the schools the post-primary education best suited to the abilities and aptitudes of all the pupils.
