Vol. 220 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Industrial Grants.

49.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has under review the manner of giving grants for new industries with a view to producing a more flexible system more suited to competition with this country's nearest neighbours in the attraction of new industries.

As I indicated to the Deputy on 26th January, 1966, the grant incentives scheme is being kept under review. I have, however, no reason to believe that the scheme is not competitive with those operating elsewhere.

Has the Minister not noted a change in the grant system in Northern Ireland and Britain?

Even with the change, the grants here are still favourable from the competitive point of view.

That opinion is not held by the British people, who state otherwise.

There is a continuing review.
