Vol. 220 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Valuation of Dublin Buildings.

9.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in fixing the rateable valuation of O'Connell Bridge House, Hawkins House, St. Stephen's Green House, Ansley House and Liberty Hall; and whether, pending the fixing of such valuations, any compensation will be paid to Dublin Corporation in lieu of rates in respect of municipal services provided for accommodation in those buildings occupied by civil servants.

I presume that, in referring to delay in fixing the rateable valuation, the Deputy has in mind the information given to him in reply to a question on last Wednesday, 9th February, 1966, that the accommodation occupied by the State in these buildings was not valued for rating in the current year.

I am informed by the Commissioner of Valuation that, under the Valuation Acts, the accommodation in question could not be valued hitherto, as that in Hawkins House had not been referred to him by Dublin Corporation in the Lists of Hereditaments Requiring Revision of Valuation, while the rest, although so listed, was not ready for occupation when the current Revised Valuation List was published on 1st March, 1965.

As Dublin Corporation has not suffered any loss of rates on this accommodation by reason of the State occupying it, no payment in lieu of rates will be made until it has been valued.

Question No. 10 postponed.
