asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of conciliation officers attached to the Labour Court for the years 1963, 1964 and 1965 and at present.

In 1963 and during the period to September, 1964, there were two full-time conciliation officers and two other officers who devoted the major portion of their time to conciliation work. Since September, 1964, the staffing of the conciliation service has been augmented by the addition of a further full-time conciliation officer.

I am informed that the Labour Court assigns other officers of the Court to conciliation work on a temporary basis as the need arises.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will outline the method of recruitment of conciliation officers for the Labour Court.

Conciliation officers in the Labour Court are appointed under section 16 of the Industrial Relations Act, 1946, which provides that the Court may appoint officers of the Court to act as conciliation officers.

Officers of the Labour Court are appointed by me under the provisions of section 13 of the Industrial Relations Act, 1946. These officers are General Service civil servants of my Department.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of conciliation conferences conducted by the Labour Court in the years 1963, 1964 and 1965.

I am informed by the Labour Court that the number of conciliation conferences conducted by the conciliation service of the Court was approximately 500 in 1963, approximately 600 in 1964 and approximately 700 in 1965.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of public and private hearings conducted by the Labour Court in the years, 1963, 1964 and 1965.

I am informed by the Labour Court that the number of hearings conducted by the Court in each of the years 1963, 1964 and 1965 was 122, 122 and 142 respectively.

Separate figures for public and private hearings are not readily available in the Court's records.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the order of priority followed by the Labour Court in arranging conciliation conferences.

The Labour Court regulates its own proceedings. The order of priorities in arranging Labour Court hearings and conciliation conferences is a matter for the Court.
