Vol. 221 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Belleek Pottery.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will amend the customs duties regulations so as to permit bona fide travellers from this State to import without paying customs duty thereon small amounts of Belleek pottery purchased by them on the occasion of visiting the pottery works.

The Deputy's suggestion is already met to the extent that persons returning from an occasional visit of more than 24 hours to Northern Ireland are permitted to import free of duty articles, including Belleek pottery, for personal use or as gifts up to a value of £5; in the case of persons who make frequent short visits to Northern Ireland the limit of value of the concession is £1.5.0. It is not practicable to grant similar concessions to persons returning from day trips.
