Vol. 221 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Stamp Duty on House Purchases.

12.

asked the Minister for Finance the estimated yearly loss of revenue which would arise if the present stamp duty of three per cent were abolished on sales of private dwelling houses costing less than £3,000; and if, in view of the present grave financial difficulties confronting newly-wed and other house purchasers, he will provide this relief.

I cannot see my way to propose legislation granting the relief suggested by the Deputy. It is estimated that the yearly loss of revenue which would result from the abolition of the present stamp duties on sales of private dwelling houses costing less than £3,000 would be £150,000.
