Vol. 221 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Parking Accommodation.

28.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the increasing difficulty for motorists in finding parking accommodation in the Dublin city area; and, if so, if he has any proposals to deal with this situation.

I am aware that the increasing volume of private cars using the central city area has involved increased difficulty for all those seeking parking accommodation in that area. The provision of off-street car parks is a matter for Dublin Corporation. I have urged the corporation to do all they can in this matter. I am aware, however, of their difficulties. Pending the clarification of planning issues, their main effort must relate to the provision of temporary surface parks, and suitable sites for this purpose are necessarily limited.

Could the Minister indicate what are the difficulties of Dublin Corporation?

It is in the latter part of my reply. I have urged the corporation to do all they can in this matter. I am aware, however, of their difficulties. Pending the clarification of planning issues, their main effort must relate to the provision of temporary surface parks, and suitable sites for this purpose are necessarily limited.

The Minister should see the Minister for Health.
