Vol. 221 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Borris (Carlow) Housing Site.

29.

asked the Minister for Local Government when plans for the erection of county council houses on the site of the former CIE station at Borris, County Carlow were first submitted to his Department.

A layout plan was first submitted on 26th November, 1964, in conjunction with the original proposal to acquire the site. House plans were first submitted on 26th November, 1965, with a revised layout plan, specification and estimate of cost.

Why did 12 months elapse between the submission of the original plans and the second plans?

The second plan was a house plan and the first plan was a layout plan.

Why did it take 12 months to submit the second plan?

It is something I would not know because the provision of these plans would be at local authority level and not a matter for my Department.

When was permission given to the council to buy the site and when were they told further plans would be required?

As far as permission is concerned, a circular of May, 1965, gave power to local authorities to acquire sites without ministerial approval. This was one of the sites acquired in such circumstances.

Could the Minister say when the original letter from Carlow County Council, dated 26th November, 1964, was replied to by the Department.

I am afraid I have not got that information but I can get it if the Deputy wishes to know.

Is the Minister in a position now to sanction the plan?

I am not because I got back the revised plan only a fortnight ago.

No money.
