Vol. 221 No. 7

Written Answers. - Commissions and Committees.

147.

andMr. Barry asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will state in respect of each of the commissions and inter-departmental committees referred to in a reply of 1st March (1) the purpose for which it was set up and (2) when it is expected that it will issue a final report.

Following is the information sought:—

1. The Horse Survey Team was set up to examine all aspects of the horsebreeding industry and to make recommendations for its further development. The report of the Team is expected to be available to me in about six weeks.

2. The Committee on Wool improvements was set up to consider and recommend desirable improvements in the quality, handling and marketing of Irish wool, including the question of grading. I expect to receive the Committee's report before the end of March.

3. The Survey team on the Glasshouse industry was set up to examine the glasshouse industry (including the mushroom industry) with a view to appraising its efficiency and to formulate measures of adjustment or adaptation to the conditions likely to be met with in international trade, especially if this country should become a member of the European Economic Community.

The Team submitted its report in regard to the glasshouse industry last month. The report on the mushroom industry is expected within a few months.
