asked the Minister for Local Government the amount of outstanding grants payable to the local authority in County Mayo under the following headings: (a) main road grants, (b) county road grants, (c) tourist road grants, and (d) maintenance grants.
As the reply includes a tabular statement, I propose with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report. The amounts of outstanding grants payable to Mayo County Council under the headings specified by the Deputy can be determined only when certified documents setting out the final costs of the works financed with the aid of these grants, have been received and examined by my Department. The grants are paid in recoupment of expenditure incurred by the road authority and, in accordance with normal Departmental practice, substantial interim payments are made in advance of the final payments, having regard to the progress made on the various schemes by the road authority.
