Vol. 221 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Galway Industrial Estate.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement on progress to date regarding the siting, planning and erection of the proposed industrial estate for Galway; and if he can state when it is expected that factory buildings will be available for renting to interested industrialists.

I would refer the Deputy to my replies of 24th November, 1965 and 1st February, 1966, to his previous questions.

The Regional Development Committee, in consultation with An Foras Tionscal, has now completed its advisory consideration of the provision of a site for the proposed industrial estate in Galway. As already explained, immediate responsibility for the establishment, development and administration of the estate will rest with An Foras Tionscal, and the promotion of the legislation necessary in this regard is the function of the Minister for Industry and Commerce.

The Committee will continue to examine and advise on such questions relating to the project, or other aspects of the decision that the city is to be a regional development centre, as may arise, including the availability of housing, services and other supporting facilities.
