Vol. 221 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rates Collection.

27.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total amounts collected in rates during each of the years 1956-57 to 1965-66.

The amounts collected in rates in the years 1956-57 to 1965-66 were £19.70 million, £20.08 million, £20.56 million, £21.41 million, £22.06 million, £23.20 million, £22.78 million, £24.47 million, £25.86 million and £29.84 million respectively. The last two figures are estimates.

In view of the fact that rates are steadily increasing, that Fianna Fáil at one time promised to give complete de-rating to the people——

It is not; it is the truth.

Is the Deputy asking a question?

I am. In view of the fact that last year the Taoiseach promised——

That has nothing to do with the question.

When does the Minister intend to introduce legislation to ease the burden of rates as promised——

That is a separate question. Question No. 28.
